Street-legal e-scooters: ride legally in Switzerland
Not every e-scooter is allowed on Swiss roads. Models with speeds of up to 20 km/h are permitted if they are classified as light motorised bicycles and meet the requirements for lights, brakes and reflectors. Both TWHEELS e-scooters are street-legal in Switzerland, so you can ride legally on cycle paths and roads.
The rules at a glance (as of July 2026)
You may ride from the age of 14 with a category M driving licence, and from 16 without a licence. The same rules as for bicycles apply: cycle paths and roads are permitted, pavements are not. No licence plate is required, and helmets are not compulsory, but wearing one is strongly recommended. Since the revision in July 2025, you must also ride e-scooters without a seat alone and standing.
Which scooter is right for you?
The E-Scooter Lite (450 W, range of up to 50 km) is the compact choice for city journeys, while the E-Scooter Pro (500 W, up to 100 km) is also suitable for longer commutes. Accessories include a helmet, a sturdy lock and, if needed, an original replacement battery. Find out more about eMobility and accessories.
