What is a carbon belt drive and what are its highlights?
A
Carbon belt drive is a drive system for bicycles that uses a belt made of carbon fibers instead of a conventional metal chain. This belt is extremely robust and durable. Here are some of the main advantages and highlights compared to a normal chain:
- Low maintenance: In contrast to metal chains, which have to be lubricated and cleaned regularly, a carbon belt drive requires hardly any maintenance.
- Durable: Carbon belts have a longer service life than conventional chains as they are less susceptible to wear and stretching.
- Quiet: The carbon belt runs almost silently, which makes the riding experience more pleasant.
- Clean: As no lubricant is required, the belt remains clean and leaves no oily residue.
- Efficient: The belt offers even power transmission and ensures a smooth ride.
These properties make the carbon belt drive an ideal choice for e-bikes and other bikes that are used frequently and in a variety of conditions.
How do you shift gears with a carbon belt drive?
The City E-Bike Classic uses automatic adjustment of the pedal assistance depending on the gradient and riding conditions. This means that no conventional gears are visible or need to be shifted manually. Instead, the system automatically adjusts the power assistance to ensure an optimal riding experience. This simplifies operation considerably and ensures that you can concentrate fully on riding.
Can the bike be ridden without a battery and how are the gears then adjusted?
Yes, the City E-Bike Classic can also be ridden without a battery. In this case, it works like a normal bike, but without electric pedal assistance. As the bike has no conventional gears and the power assistance is adjusted automatically, there is no manual gear shifting. Without a battery, you have to rely on your own muscle power and the gear ratio remains fixed. This means that riding on hilly terrain or into a headwind can be more strenuous as there is no electric assistance available.
These characteristics make the carbon belt drive an ideal choice for e-bikes and other bikes that are used frequently and in different conditions.

Without pedal assistance, electric vehicles, for example our TWHEELS scooter, are allowed to travel up to 20 km/h. Anything above the speed of 20 - 25 km/h must be driven with a number plate.

Care & maintenance of the e-bike
- Regular cleaning: Clean the e-bike regularly with a mild detergent and water. However, avoid using high-pressure cleaners, as this can damage the electronics.
- Checking the air pressure: Regularly check the air pressure of the tires and pump them up if necessary. This will ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Checking the chain: Regularly check the condition of the chain and lubricate it if necessary. A well lubricated chain prolongs the life of the drive and provides a pleasant riding experience.
- Brake Maintenance: Make sure that the brakes are always working properly & adjust them when necessary. Regularly check the brake lining and replace it if necessary.
- Battery care: Charge the battery only with the charger recommended by the manufacturer and store it in a dry and cool place when needed. Be sure to discharge and recharge the battery regularly to prolong its life.
- Storage: If you do not use the e-bike for a long time, store it in a dry and cool place. Remove the battery and store it separately.

The price-performance ratio is top, the bike rides great and without any problems. I would definitely buy it again. It is well made, durable and also looks stylish. The electric gears and brakes work perfectly. I am really satisfied all round and can only recommend the bike to anyone.

The e-bike is super light and I think it's really great that you can't even tell it's an e-bike because the battery is so well hidden. Nevertheless, it has a really long range.

Gamechanger, love it 🚲

I tried out the e-bike and am totally thrilled. The modern carbon frame drive makes for a super comfortable ride and provides just the right amount of support. The three support modes are also great and really noticeably different. On other bikes I've ridden, it often felt as if all the support levels were the same.
