E-Scooter and E-Bike batteries prefer moderate temperatures.
The optimal temperature is 20 °C. However, E-Scooter batteries also work well at ambient temperatures between 5 and 25 °C. In this range, the maximum range should still be achievable.
In the cold season, you have to expect that the range will be reduced. Specifically, this means you will need to charge the battery more frequently during the winter months.
Today's batteries can be charged as much as you want. It is even advisable to charge the battery often and not run it empty.
Riding E-Scooters and E-Bikes in winter works great
The range of the E-Scooter or E-Bike can, depending on the battery charge, drop to up to 70% of the usual performance at subzero temperatures. When the battery warms up again, it can deliver the usual performance – meaning riding at low temperatures does not harm the battery.
Optimal storage of E-Bike & E-Scooter batteries
If you do not ride your E-Bike or E-Scooter in winter, the battery should be stored in a dry place protected from sunlight at temperatures between 10 - 20 degrees Celsius. Caution, never near hot or flammable objects. If the battery is stored separately, make sure the contacts are away from metallic objects as they could cause a short circuit.
Discharged E-Bike & E-Scooter batteries
Never store a battery discharged for a long time. The E-Scooter or E-Bike battery could fall into deep discharge, which can damage the battery cells. If the battery is stored for a long time, it should be ensured that it is stored between 60 and 90% charge. However, it is recommended to check the charge status at least every 1-2 months and recharge if necessary.
Does storing the E-Scooter and E-Bike battery for too long impair its storage capacity?
The storage capacity of a battery is important for the range of an E-Bike or E-Scooter. Depending on the battery charge (number of charge cycles, full charge/partial charge, deep discharge) and storage (storage temperature), the battery wears out at different rates. The storage capacity of the battery can slightly decrease during longer storage. Therefore, we recommend storing the battery under the right conditions to minimize wear.
