- Yes, the City E-Bike Classic can also be ridden without a battery. In this case, it works like a normal bicycle, but without electric pedal assistance. Since the bike has no conventional gears and the power assistance is automatically adjusted, there is no manual gear shifting. Without a battery, you have to rely on your own muscle power, and the gearing remains fixed. This means that riding in hilly terrain or against the wind can be more strenuous, as no electric assistance is available. These features make the carbon belt drive an ideal choice for e-bikes and other bicycles that are used frequently and under various conditions.

Can the e-bike be ridden without motor assistance?
Yes, the e-bike can be operated in 3 driving modes:
- With a throttle like a small motorcycle (20 km/h)
- With pedal assistance like a classic e-bike (up to 25 km/h)
- Without motor assistance like a normal bicycle
Can a trailer be mounted or is there a compatible luggage rack?
- Yes, you can easily attach a trailer and in the near future we will also offer a compatible luggage rack for the e-bike as a purchase option.
Do I need insurance for my e-bike?
No. In Switzerland, insurance is not mandatory.
- Theft insurance: If your e-bike is stolen despite a lock being attached, some home insurance providers can help. Also make sure whether this case is covered by your insurance.
Which driver's license do I need for the e-bike?
- From 16 years, none. From 14 to 16 years, a moped license (category M).
How do I register an e-bike?
- Can be ridden like a conventional bike without a license plate!
20 km/h vs. 25 km/h
- In Switzerland, vehicles with electric assistance are allowed to travel between 20 - 25 km/h. With pedal assistance, for example on an e-bike, you may travel up to 25 km/h. Without pedal assistance, electric vehicles, such as our TWHEELS scooter, may travel up to 20 km/h. Anything exceeding the speed of 20 - 25 km/h must be driven with a license plate.
Is there a helmet requirement?
Wearing a helmet is legally not mandatory. Nevertheless, we recommend you to wear a helmet for your safety while riding.
